What
makes our hearts melt when we sit in the theater and watch a great love
story? It's not the hero's physical strength or his beloved's beauty.
You and I are drawn to the power of true love and its
inexplicable ability to prevail despite tragedy and hardship (often the
greater the conflict the greater the love).
A problem comes though, when we get accustomed to seeing relational
problems solved in the time it takes to eat a bag of popcorn. Our hero
and his beauty have less than two hours to defeat the dragons and
overcome unspeakable challenges.
You and I are not going to magically resolve any relationship conflict
in our own wisdom, and definitely not in less than two hours.
However, the Author of love, our Prince of Peace, has written a script.
His Word on real-life, royal relationships can lead us to the happy
ending we long for!
Many of you, like myself have been wounded by someone and it is hard to let go of that pain.
Let's take a moment and look at King David's example of handling a
fierce King Saul who once loved David, but grew bitterly jealous and
envious of the call God had on the future King's life. David was
running from a man who was trying to
hurt, hinder and even kill him. Yet David, in God's strength, was able
to resist the temptation to kill his enemy when he came upon the
sleeping King Saul. From a human perspective David had good reason to
kill Saul. He had made David's
life miserable and was now seeking to kill him.
Saul was after David without a just reason. Even Saul's son, Jonathan
took David's side during the hunt. But David, the future anointed king,
did something much greater than take revenge. He deferred to God's will
and obeyed the command
not to strike down the man God had placed on the throne. In other
words, He did what his God wanted Him to do.
Treasure of Truth
Care more about God's will than your rights, and you will win victory.
"Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath,
for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," says the Lord.
Romans 12:19, NIV
My Princess Bride,
Allow Me to be your Strong Prince to fight any and all
battles you're in right now. I don't want my bride to exhaust herself
fighting in her own strength. The battle you face my love, is already
won! Now step behind me and
let your powerful Prince shield you from the attacks of the enemy of
your soul. Yes, I am your warrior and your protector. As long as you
stand behind me and let me fight for you, there is nothing that can or
will overtake you. It is my
pleasure to go to war for my beloved bride.
My Prince,
I am ready to let You fight for me, my warrior. I am
tired of battling alone. Please forgive me for using my actions and
words as weapons to hurt those who have hurt me. Thank you for being my
shield and my strength. You
alone are the one who will bring victory to my life.
Thank you for fighting for me, I love you my Lord!
Your Princess Bride,
who is ready to stand behind you
"For the LORD your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory."
Deuteronomy 20:4 (NIV)
